MONTH 7: September 22-October 19, 2024

This month I had a very big win. Several months ago, I opened an account to save $300/month for new winter tires (I sold my old tires and rims). This week, there was $1900 in my tire fund; they cost $1400, so I changed the name of the Winter Tire Fund to New iPhone Fund, and it already has $500 in it! I’m not in a rush for a new phone, but Toyota thinks my Car Play won’t work properly because my phone is so old… My goal for the new phone fund is $1700 (phone plus case). I can’t even explain the feeling of paying for the tires with my MasterCard to receive air miles, then when I got home, I transferred the money from the fund directly onto the Mastercard. I didn’t have to worry about putting them onto an already debt-ridden card or have the worry of how many months of interest to come. It is very motivating to set these financial goals and meet them. I love having no debt on credit cards or on a line of credit and I am not feeling deprived because I am not buying anything! It has been a big month for me medically, as I had surgery, a bowel scope, a CT scan and an ECG. I am now in the recovery stage and am taking it easy and sleeping a lot. I am looking forward to a quieter month.

MONEY SAVED
: 21%
I saved 21% this month, in my pet emergency fund, my iPhone fund, my RRSP accounts.
MONEY SPENT: 79%
This month’s money was spent on the regular monthly bills: phone, cable, streaming services, insurance, rent, groceries, gym membership, electricity, prescriptions, a meal out 1-2 times per week, gas, and dog grooming and food. Other spending this month was spent on bowel scope prep, new makeup to replace older makeup, hospital parking and cabs for medical procedures, 40% of a crown (you know you’re getting older when!), a previously owned cargo cover to replace the original one that I left in the IKEA parking lot ☹.
